Frequently Asked Questions

A concrete calculator estimates the volume of concrete needed for a slab, footing, column, or other structure. By entering the dimensions of your project, the calculator tells you how many cubic yards or cubic meters of concrete you need, along with the number of bags or ready-mix trucks required.
To find cubic yards, multiply the length (in feet) by the width (in feet) by the thickness (in inches divided by 12), then divide by 27. For example, a 10ft × 10ft slab at 4 inches thick is 10 × 10 × (4/12) ÷ 27 = 1.23 cubic yards.
Approximately 45 bags of 80 lb concrete, 60 bags of 60 lb concrete, or 90 bags of 40 lb concrete make up one cubic yard. These estimates are based on standard yield: an 80 lb bag yields about 0.6 cu ft, a 60 lb bag yields 0.45 cu ft, and a 40 lb bag yields 0.30 cu ft.
Common slab thicknesses: 4 inches for walkways and patios, 6 inches for driveways and garage floors, 8–10 inches for heavy vehicle traffic, and 12+ inches for commercial or structural applications. Always check local building codes for minimum requirements.
Standard ready-mix concrete trucks carry 10 cubic yards (approximately 8 cubic meters) of concrete. For smaller projects, some companies offer mini-mix trucks carrying 2–3 cubic yards. This calculator uses 10 cubic yards as the default truck capacity.
