Frequently Asked Questions
Landscape fabric (weed barrier) is a permeable geotextile material that blocks weeds while allowing water and air to reach the soil. It is commonly used under mulch, gravel, or in garden beds.
Measure the length and width of the area and multiply for square footage. Add 10% for overlap between strips. Divide by the roll width to determine linear feet needed. Most rolls are 3–12.5 ft wide.
Overlap landscape fabric strips by 6–12 inches (10–15%) to prevent weeds from growing through the seams. Pin overlapped sections together with landscape staples every 12–18 inches.
A general rule is 1 staple per square foot of fabric. For a 500 sq ft area, you will need approximately 500 staples. Place staples at edges and seams every 12–24 inches.
